Next meeting?

Hello-- do we have a confirmed date and time for the next meeting? I believe the 13th (Sunday) was the tentative day. Any updates? Thanks.

On Real-World Social Isolation in the Cyber Community

As always, have much editing to do. And am always looking for constructive criticism. Have at it, kids. I'll get to fixing it up after these damn finals for summer session.

Yes, I'm about a month late posting this up. I apologize. Profusely.

Rohan.

Culture Clash

Self-absorbed or Community Involvement

Chapter 16, Page 239, at the end of the continuing paragraph (from page 238) on that page. After "on your campus, and vice-versa." Before the paragraph starting with "If, however."
[ This I feel is very important having experienced it myself.]

Friends as Roommates

Chapter 11, Page 167 after "Love and Friendship" title, after 3rd full paragraph. I would like to re-name this piece "Love and Friends as Roommates" (I feel that this chapter focuses a lot on loving our significant others but not much on other areas of love. I don't know if that was the original intention, but I thought that a different approach to or a lesson on love would be applicable to anyone.)

Just thought I'd throw this out there

I read this article in Wired a few days ago, and I think it's really good to "think with" as we go into the technology section. I know there are a lot of people writing about the way that technology has affected writing and literacy in particular, but I think we can do a lot better than the "moaning" pundits Clive Thompson writes about below:

How Facebook Ruins Friendships

*
By ELIZABETH BERNSTEIN

Notice to my friends: I love you all dearly.

But I don't give a hoot that you are "having a busy Monday," your child "took 30 minutes to brush his teeth," your dog "just ate an ant trap" or you want to "save the piglets." And I really, really don't care which Addams Family member you most resemble. (I could have told you the answer before you took the quiz on Facebook.)

Too bad I Didn't Make an Book Entry About This Since It's Too Late

One thing I just realized about communication thanks to the Internet and text messaging is that we have a tendency to shoot our mouths off and speak too freely. The problem is that we have instant access and can get a message to someone immediately. We have Facebook to add someone we barely know, find out a lot of information based on what about themselves that they put online, then we think we know them and assume they know we're joking (because people try to be witty on the Internet) when we say certain things.

Dearest Library,
