Choosing a Major for the Career-Minded Student

One of my most valuable college reads was Michael Lewis’s Liar’s Poker, his autobiography of his work as a trader at Salomon Brothers in the 1980’s. What I took away was primarily his famous statement that there is no self-indulgence in the economics major. Since the ‘80’s, many students who major in economics go on to more finance-related careers such as banking, which require little knowledge of economics whatsoever. Although there are a few students who genuinely enjoy economic theory, most feel that the courses are mundane and full of memorization.

Don't Give Up

In every student’s life there comes a time when we all say “why am I doing this? a college degree doesn’t really matter and I have a job offer anyway.” You become tired of the schedule, papers and midterms. You begin to think the grass is greener on the “working side.”

9/14 Meeting HELP NEEDED

Hey folks,

so I am getting surgery on September 17 in Manila and have been repeatedly getting sick here, meaning I won't be returning to the United States for our 9/14 meeting! I won't even be there until January, but I'd like to have a chance to somewhat be there.

Sun Aug 9 Don't fear roller coasters

I went to 6 flags on Sunday. At this theme park, there is the best/fastest (I think) roller coaster in the world, X2.

Lines are usually long, up to 2 hours, but I guess I chose a good day because I only had to wait ~40 min each of the 3 times I went on the ride.

Thurs Ag 6 - Day I broke Free

Here's the revised version:

Thursday, August 6, 2009

Today has been the best day in my entire life. So far today, I’ve gone to two classes, contributed to the discussions, and I’ve made a salad. I left one class early and came back and in the other class I wore sunglasses.
Sounds routine. Apart from the early departure and the shades. But they have everything to do with why today has been the greatest day of my life.

The Time is Now - Get Involved

You often hear people say “what you get out of something depends on how much you put into it,” and that’s precisely the college experience in a nutshell. Whether you realize it or not, there is nothing worse than spending four or more years only studying and socializing. Believe it or not, college is not just about education; it’s this incredible opportunity to expand yourself, and that only happens if you take a few detours on your way from class to dorm to frat house. Many students seek employment and internships to start preparing for the post-grad life.
